2016 Taichung International Animation Festival Kicks off the Official Opening with more than 30 Distinguished Industry Professionals Attending from Home and Abroad

2016 Taichung International Animation Festival kicks off the official opening today (Oct 14). The opening reception is attended by various guests of honor, such as Kim Keukeleire, the director of the opening film My Life as a Courgette, and YEON Sang-Ho, the director of box office hit Seoul Station; the directors of the 48 finalist short films out of more than 300 entries also attend to receive the finalist certificates from Taichung Mayor LIN Chia-Lung. Mayor LIN mentions in his opening remarks that he is very glad to see so many animation professionals from home and abroad gather together, which suggests that Taichung International Animation Festival has reached its most desired purpose: to summon the propulsion of international animation industry and to facilitate the development of Taiwan animation industry.

Kim Keukeleire, the director of the opening film puppet animation My Life as a Courgette, who is in Taiwan for the first time, is highly impressed by the quality of the films and the scale of Taichung International Animation Film Festival; he shares, in the opening remarks, the production process of My Life as a Courgette, and how complicated each stage of shooting of the puppet animation is, which makes each and every frame of the film the director’s brainchild. Another international guest of honor, Korean director YEON Sang-Ho presented his acclaimed masterpiece Seoul Station. YEON’s live-action feature film Train to Busan has caused a great deal of discussion throughout Asia, and it has set an astonishing box office record; However, Seoul Station, known as the prequel of Train to Busan, in fact, is the ultimately outstanding achievement by YEON Sang-ho.

This year, Taichung International Animation Festival incorporates up to 200 films from 25 countries. In addition, the competitions and selections in the program "Taiwan Animation: Formosa Treasure" feature fairly strong lineup, which include A Shiung and Prince Siddhavvha, an animated feature film entirely produced by the local talents and realized through the resources from Taiwan; two of the films in “Taiwan Selected Works” Go Go Giwas and Under the Persimmon Streetlight, which were nominated for the 51st Golden Bell Awards, are also the highlights in the program. Furthermore, this edition of the Taichung International Animation Festival includes up to 4 out of 5 animated short films nominated for the Golden Horse Awards, which are Bart, Wander in the Dark, Baumu, and LÖSS in the“Chinese Talents”section.

Taichung International Animation Film Festival has officially kicked off, and it will be closed on October 21. With tickets selling out fast, those who are interested shall hesitate no more.
