2018 TIAF Award Winning Films Announced

"2018 Taichung International Animation Film Festival" announced the winners of its major awards at the closing ceremony today (Oct 18) at Kbro Cinemas. To the Short Films Competition, the Grand Prix of NT$500,000 was awarded to The Fall by Boris LABBÉ, and the Student Short Films' Grand Prix of NT$150,000 was awarded to Flower Found! by Jorn LEEUWERINK. Later in the evening, the 2nd edition of the animation festival was rounded off impeccably with the screening of A Dog's Life.

Short Films - Grand Prix
The Fall by  Boris LABBÉ

The jury awards the Grand Prix to The Fall for its originality and for the daring way in which it contributes to the development of animation by helping to rejuvenate its expressive idiom.

Short Films - Jury Distinction
Five Minute to Sea by Natalia MIRZOYAN

For its playful approach to storytelling through its chosen perspective, and the way in which the graphic style and animation express a sensitivity to the poetry of time and to scenes of everyday life. 

Short Films - Outstanding Work
The Blissful Accidental Death by Sergiu NEGULICI

The jury appreciated the film's cinematographic approach, the quality of the screenplay, and the mix of traditional and modern techniques.

Student Short Films - Grand Prix
Flower Found! by Jorn LEEUWERINK

Surprising and bold, this film cleverly plays with the audience’s expectations to deliver a powerful message: the opinion of the crowd is not the same thing as the truth. 

Student Short Films- Jury Distinction
Liu by HUNG Chia-Wen & CHEN I-Wen

A tender look at the complexities of Love and Lust, this colorful poem kept us immersed with its fresh approach to visuals and narrative.

Student Short Films - Outstanding Work
The Deep End by Elise AUGARTEN

This film impressed us with its unique process leaving traces of movement and going deep beneath the surface of paper to reveal a complex emotional struggle.
