2018 TIAF CALL FOR SUBMISSION With newly-added Pitching Award and prizes up to TWD 1.4 Million
With the great success and popularity, the Taichung International Animation Festival (TIAF) moves on to its 4thedition in 2018. This year, there are two categories in the competition -- Short Film Competition and Short Film Projects' Pitching Award – with awards totaling TWD 1.4 million (approx. 46,000 USD), a draw to global filmmakers as well as encouragement for Taiwanese filmmakers to submit their innovative projects. The submission opens from now until June 30th 2018.
Since its installment from 2015, TIAF has made its name in international animation community for being “the one and only city animation festival in Taiwan". This year's TIAF, directed by Information Bureau of Taichung City Government and organized by Taichung Film Development Foundation, will continue offering Grand Prize of TWD 500,000 in Short Film Competition. There are two more additions to promote Taiwanese animated short films -- Taiwanese Short Films and Taiwanese Student Short Films -- which offer prizes of animation software exclusively sponsored by TVPaint Développement. The competition serves as a platform for domestic filmmakers to screen their creations and facilitate international communication as well as opportunities to win great prize and other awards.
Lin Ying-Chih, executive director of Taichung Film Development Foundation, noted on the scenes of local animation filmmakers: they develop solid skills and generous creativities at school; yet endure financial difficulties to continuously produce subsequent creations after graduation. Therefore, the first installment of Short Film Projects' Pitching Award at this year's TIAF offers Grand Prize of TWD 200,000 and TVPaint Animation software, so as to support the new talents and encourage them to submit projects with artistic vision and daring innovation.
Lin also stated that, of the 30 international short films selected in 2017 TIAF Competition, two were nominated at this year's Academy Awards for Best Short Film (Animated), which proves TIAF's efforts in showcasing the best works and connecting to the global industry. TIAF, the ultimate animation feast in Taichung, is the must-see this October with the latest and the best animation short films worldwide.
The competition of 2018 TIAF opens for submission for the time being and ends by Saturday, June 30th 2018. The Festival only accepts online submission.
